Dark Apostle

My motivation for getting back into the hobby after almost 10 years wasn't the game itself but the models, i saw the heldrake model and just had to paint one (pictures of it to come when i get it back from the local gw's display case).   And that was the case with the Dark apostle, its a awesome little model with loads of details and in doing it i learnt a lot. I plan on attaching him to a unit of Emperor's children Chaos marines, if anyone has a better use for him then please let me know.

One of the major things i learnt was brown is your friend when painting gold as gold isnt a one coat color for full coverage and a base coat of XV-88 helps immensely, granted you don't want to do all the line work twice on every model but on a bright color like purple it's best to do it especially if its a HQ unit, on darker colors like the Khorne red you can get away with a single coat of gold.   For aged parchment its very easy to get a nice realistic effect, base coat ceramite white, wash with seraphim sepia then dry brush with tyrant skull and there you have proper aged parchment.
